Matt was in a car accident a couple of weeks ago, but is doing a lot better now.
Matt was driving up to meet me at my company dinner in Salt Lake. He was turning left onto state street against oncoming traffic, and a truck was turning into his lane, so he thought it was safe to pull out. Well, there was another truck in the turning truck's blindspot, and T-boned Matt on his side of the car.
Matt doesn't remember any of this, but the ambulance came, and they had to use the "Jaws of Life" to cut the door off to get him out of the car. They lifted him onto the stretcher and made a quick drive to the nearest hospital. I got the call from the police officer and headed down as fast as I could.
He got a concussion, and broke his left collar bone. There were no brain injuries, and his neck and spine were great also. So they put him in a sling, gave him some pain killers, and sent him on his way. The first week he was struggling to get around and had stay home from work and canceled some shows.
Thank goodness he's okay!! The police officer said that if the other guy would have hit him 18 inches to the right, it would be a completely different outcome. This was definetely an eye-opener for us, and we are counting our blessings.
Some of you may wonder if this was our new car we had bought a week earlier. It wasn't! It was our old beat-up '96 Honda Accord. That thing was struggling to stay alive, so we're kind of glad we have an excuse to get a new car.
I will post pictures of the car when I can, I just can't seem to find the cord! Thanks for all of you that have called Matt and kept him in your thoughts and prayers. He is recovering pretty quickly, and is back to work and driving. (And has a show tonight-we'll see how it goes!)
Hopefully our next post will be better news (and sooner!)

Oh my gosh......I am so glad that Matt is doing better after such an awful ordeal. That must have just been a terrible frightening experience for both of you. I am so sorry that we have been playing phone tag. Hopefully we can connect sometime this weekend. I am doing better after my latest "medical" crisis. 2008 has to be a better year!!! We miss you guys. Hugs, Kathy
I heard he broke his collar bone. Didn't realize how, hope he gets better soon.
